Privacy policy

How BeeReady handles your information. Last updated 3 November 2026.

The short version

  • BeeReady is free and you don’t need an account. Your plan, kit and household details stay on your own device.
  • We can’t see your plan. If you save it with a household code, it’s locked (encrypted) on your phone first, and we only store the locked copy.
  • We never sell your data and we don’t build advertising profiles.
  • No tracking cookies. We count visits without cookies.
  • You’re in control. You can download or delete everything at any time in Settings.

1. Who we are

BeeReady (beeready.uk) is an independent UK household emergency planner. It is not part of, or endorsed by, the UK government’s Be Ready campaign. We are the “controller” of the small amount of personal data described here, under UK data protection law.

Privacy contact: hello@beeready.uk

2. What we hold

On your device (we can’t see it)

Your household make-up (for example 2 adults, 1 child, 1 dog), your kit and checklist, expiry dates, meeting places, contacts, medicines and notes are saved in your browser’s storage on your device. If you clear your browser data, it’s gone, so use Settings to save a backup file.

If you save with a household code

Your plan is encrypted on your phone with your 16-character code (AES-256) before it’s uploaded. We store only that locked copy, so we can’t read it, and nor can anyone without the code. Deleting the cloud copy in Save and share removes it from our servers.

Collected automatically

  • Visit counts: page views, device type and country, counted with Cloudflare Web Analytics, which uses no cookies and doesn’t identify you.
  • Technical logs: your IP address and browser details, kept briefly by our hosting provider to run the site and block attacks.

If you email us

Your name, email address and what you tell us, so we can reply.

3. Camera and barcode scanning

On phones that support it, you can scan a product barcode when adding your own item. The camera is used only while the scanner is open, and no images are stored or sent anywhere. The barcode number (not a picture) is looked up on Open Food Facts, a free public product database, to fill in the product name.

The torch in Emergency mode also uses the camera light, only while you have it switched on.

4. Calendar reminders

Expiry reminders and kit check drills are a calendar file you choose to download. Your calendar app keeps them; nothing is sent to us.

5. Cookies

BeeReady doesn’t use advertising or tracking cookies. Your browser’s storage keeps your plan and settings so the site works; this is strictly necessary, so it doesn’t need consent. If we ever add non-essential cookies, we’ll ask first and update this policy.

6. Shop links

Items have shop links so you can buy what you need. When you follow one you leave BeeReady, and the retailer’s own privacy policy applies. Links marked Ad are affiliate links: we may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. The retailer may set its own cookies when you click through. We never receive your name, address or payment details from them.

7. Who we share data with

We never sell or rent personal data. We use these providers to run BeeReady:

  • Cloudflare: hosting, security, visit counts and storing locked household-code copies.
  • Open Food Facts: only the barcode number you scan, to look up a product name.
  • Amazon: only if you follow a shop link (see section 6).

Cloudflare may process data outside the UK, including in the USA. Where that happens, UK-approved safeguards such as the UK-US Data Bridge apply. We may also disclose data if the law requires it.

8. How long we keep it

  • Data on your device: until you delete it or clear your browser.
  • Locked household-code copy: until you delete it in Save and share.
  • Technical logs: a short time, set by our hosting provider.
  • Emails you send us: up to 2 years after we last reply.
  • Visit counts don’t identify you, so they may be kept.

9. Health details

The medicines table and notes can hold health information. It stays on your device, or in your locked household-code copy that we can’t read. Only share it when you choose to, for example when you share your emergency sheet.

10. Children

BeeReady is for adults planning for their household. Details about children, such as “1 child aged 4”, are entered by a parent or carer and are only used to tailor the plan.

11. Your rights

Under UK GDPR you can ask to see, correct or delete data we hold about you, object to how we use it, or take it with you. Most of your data is already under your control: Settings lets you download a backup or delete everything, and Save and share deletes the cloud copy. For anything else, email hello@beeready.uk. It’s free and we’ll reply within one month.

If you’re unhappy with how we’ve handled your data, please contact us first. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office: ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint (opens in a new tab) or 0303 123 1113.

12. Changes

We’ll update this page when BeeReady changes, for example when the iPhone and Android apps launch. The date at the top shows the latest version.
