Good to know
- Most fish cope with a slow rise or fall in water temperature over 24 hours. Wrap the tank in blankets to keep the heat in, especially the lid, where most heat is lost.
- Hot water bottles placed around the outside of the tank can help keep it warm.
- No pump? Stir the surface for five minutes every hour, or pour a jug of tank water back in from a height.
- Feed little or nothing until the power is back, so waste doesn’t build up.
- When the power returns, check the water and expect to do a few partial water changes over the next days.
