Heatwaves

Hot weather is most dangerous for babies, older people and people with health conditions.

How it can spread

  1. Health risks rise for vulnerable people and pets
  2. Water use may be restricted
  3. Rail and road disruption

Before

  • Plan how you will check on older relatives or neighbours.
  • Check how your medicines should be stored in the heat.

During

  • Close curtains on sun-facing windows in the day and open windows when it is cooler outside.
  • Drink regularly and avoid exertion between 11am and 3pm.
  • Never leave a child, vulnerable adult or pet in a parked car.
  • Call 999 if someone becomes confused, collapses or stops sweating while hot.
